Giulia TZ 1/2, 1963 – 1967

TZ

The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ was presented as a road-going racing car at the Turin Motor Show in 1962. It was built by Zagato, hence the "Z" in the name, while the "T" stands for Tubolare (tubular frame).

The Giulia's 1.6-litre engine produces 112 hp. Together with a kerb weight of just 660 kg, made possible by a tubular frame, this had a positive effect on driving performance. A total of 102 units were built between 1963 and 1965. In motorsport, it achieved good placings, albeit not the best. In addition, technical failures often occurred.

Its successor was therefore the much more successful Alfa Romeo TZ2 in 1964. The power output was increased to 165 hp and the weight was further reduced to 620 kg. The chassis was also improved. In the meantime, Autodelta was responsible for motorsport at Alfa Romeo. The newly developed Giulia GTA was more successful in touring car racing. This led to the decision to concentrate entirely on the GTA and to discontinue production of the TZ2 in 1967 after just twelve units.
